The Little John Hotel- Hathersage

After an arduous walk across the breath taking peaks it is not uncommon to feel you deserve a drink, and a good one at that. After walking up to Stanage Edge and back we decided to try The Little John Hotel as the only other pub we had passed appeared to be more of a hotel/restaurant than anything else.

The outside of the pub was not particularly appealing, and neither was the view through the window, however to escape the winds (and to sit down so we could look up somewhere better) we went in and ordered two pints. The first thing to strike me was the atmosphere, or rather lack of. No music, no attempt at conversation from the staff who in fact looked somewhat inconvenienced at our arrival and a particularly unwelcoming aesthetic all made for a poor start. However, we at 12W2 are not keen on passing judgement too quickly and as such paid for our drinks and sat at a messy table, keeping our voices down and leaving our coats on as not only was it freezing cold in there, but also to aid our hasty escape.

We noted that the beer selection was particularly terrible, in keeping with the awful décor and tacky cushions scattered about the place. It looked like an unkept, gaudy, tasteless living room of someone who never receives visitors. I’m sure if they gave me a tenner and a lift to ikea I could do a better job.

The lack of customers in what would normally have been a busy period reflected the poor quality of  The Little John in general and encouraged us to research better pubs and finish our drinks as quickly as possible. Thankfully we didn’t stay long enough to take any pictures.

Don’t go.
